IR heat lamp help

Hey guys, I have looked all over, I am wondering if anyone knows of a way or a site that sells a “somewhat” cheap Infra-red heat lamp that has a stand with it so I do not need to hold the light over my unit when I hang. Or if anyone knows any way I could attach it to my desk, please let me know, I am mechanically retarded when it comes to that stuff.

I’ve been hearing of a cheap one they sell at Lowes that clamps on to your desk.

Another easy place to find one with a clamp already on it is a reptile pet store.

I bought a 100W IR bulb at a pet store, seems hot enough, however be very careful with these things, I had it close to my penis and wasn’t paying attention and must have moved or something and the head of my penis touched the bulb, it killed and I have a bad burn now, hope there is no permanent scarring. Is there some sort of a “protector” to prevent this from happening again? Kind of like a cage to put around the bulb would be perfect.

There is not much you can do about those low wattage lamps. as they do have to be too near the body for any reasonable degree of heat.

Whether painting the inside of the cover with aluminium paint to help reflect heat forward, would send more heat may be an answer - Depends on how toxic the paint it of course.

But I notice that fewer shops seem to be stocking them.

Looking further into the matter. There seems to be different types of infra red lamps.

Some are ‘tuned’ to heat internal tissue, others for nearer the surface tissue.- Unfortunately the deep tissue ones are the most expensive. So it might be worth bearing that in mind when you are ordering your lamp

My guess is a mid tissue one would be best as we are not interested so much in joints, but we do require some internal heating.

The best thing to do would be to line the inside of the lamp cover with aluminum foil. Since it’s used on food, no worries of toxicity.

I should add: You will need some high temp adhesive to affix the foil. That can be bought at any Home Depot type store.

Not unless you are aware of the dangers of electric current.

In fact that is what I have done. But I am experienced in electrics. And decided not to recommend it, as aluminium foil also conducts electricity And if by chance the foil gets moved down and touches the live contacts.

You could be in for a nasty shock.

(That’s why I recommended aluminium paint :) )

I suppose anything is possible but that would be highly unlikely since the bulb is already covering up the “contacts”.

It is the highly unlikely’s that are dangerous.

Usage can often ‘unscrew’ the lamp and when it is screwed in, pieces get torn and find their way down to the base.

For those of you that use IR lamps, I have a couple quick questions

-Do you use the lamp throughout the whole routine or just when warming up?
-Do you also use it when you are hanging?
-Do you shelter your testicles during this process to prevent them from over-warming?
