New Clamping Device?

I searched the forums and found glimmers of what I want to do but nothing exactly (I am not the best searcher out there though).

Here is my idea:

I have been clamping for a little while now with decent success but with a normal sized cable clamp (the middle size orange one you get at Home Depot) I just don’t seem to get enough pressure. I use a thin piece of foam rubber as a wrap which is very comfortable. I got to thinking and I remembered last year when my twins were born early, they were in Neo-Natal Care Unit at the hospital and when the nurse took their blood pressure, it was a tiny little cuff.

I found these on the Internet (looking around, they are about $4 each cuff maybe a little less). They come in different sizes (size 3 looks promising). Basically it is your normal blood pressure cuff just sized down a lot.

Now I believe you could use one of these for a clamp with great success. You really only need that little pump ball and the cuff (not dial to read the pressure unless that would be helpful).

If there is anyone out there that has access to this and could try it out, I’d appreciate the effort. Let me know what you think.

Size 2 dimensions are: 6” x 1.38”

Size 3 dimensions are: 7.38” x 1.69”

All you would need to do is add a regular blood pressure bulb with the valve on it to let the air out.

A pump-clamp? cool! :)

Great idea, only you are a couple years too late. We talked about this years ago, in fact I used a neo-natal BP cuff to keep my first hanger on, a homemade Bib. It’ is a comfortable way to clamp, especially for beginner clampers, but I just can’t get the engorgement with it I do with CableClamps. Even the little three inch cuff is just too broad when you get it pumped up, unless you have found something smaller.

We are in the process of making a better clamp, but I think the developer is on Xmas vacation, so it may be a while.

I figured I was late (I usually am). These are smaller than 3” look at the dimensions above. I tried the one they used on my sons on my fingure and it turned it purple after a few seconds.

You know, these do look to be a little smaller. That was the problem before, the cuff was to wide and bulky when you pumped it up. doodman, do you know what the width is? I can’t open the site either. I think we discussed this in my old thread, “Big Girtha’s Routine for Girth and Flaccid Hang” I’ve searched but can’t find that old thread. But I seem to recall there was a long discussion about the baby cuffs then being too wide to use for a “Uli Thing.” What we need is a cuff about 1” wide.

Yeah, that size#2 might just be the ticket. You say $4.00? Why won’t the site open?

I got the site to load. The size#1 looks perfect. I don’t think you need the connectors at all, just the one hose and squeeze bulb. I’ll have to look at my old one. I think I had to tie a knot in one of the hoses.

They won’t take orders online, will call them tomorrow. doodman, have you tried that one out on any other appendages than a finger?

That was well before my PE days sorry to say. Now the length on the #1 is only 4.75”/ Are you thinking of using 2 of them in line? I guess that would do the ticket huh?

No. Just one BPcuff 1” wide would be perfect. I’ve never seen one that small. But we don’t need the two hoses or the fittings. Just one hose and the squeeze bulb with valve, the second hose just gets in the way. I guess it is for a pressure gauge. I assume it has a Velcro fastener. Looks like this might just work. I’ll call and order a couple Monday. Probably wont be open tomorrow. But you already have one, so how does it feel?

Oh. I see what you mean. It is only 4.75” long. This would not fit around a 6-1/2” girth.

Hell, I’ll order both at that price. The 1” width would be better for clamping if it were a little longer.
