Penimaster - Such a scary moment!

I have been trying to build up the time I am able to wear my Penimaster. Its uncomfortable and so difficult to do.

Recently I had worn it for 2 hours with no discomfort at all. No redness or other worrying signs. Great I thought. I received a call asking me to take my sister to a PC shop to help her choose her latest PC. No problem I thought. I kept the PM on really happy that it hasn’t slipped off or caused pain. The first time ever.

As we entered the doors, the anti-theft alarm went off. The guy leaving at the same time had his bags checked as we walked on. I thought little of this until a sudden cold fear hit me. Was it my PM which set off the alarm? Oh hell, how the hell was I going to get out?

I tried to remain calm and composed myself well while leaving the store, until the damn alarm went off again. I took a couple of extra steps away from the alarm until stopping and turned. Thankfully security just smiled and said “Don’t worry we’ve seen you pay” and waved us on.

Believe me, since this experience, I have never worn the PM when there is the remotest chance of going anywhere!

OH! Actually I thought of that before taking a flight. Therefore I put it in my hand bag instead! I’m glad I did after reading this!

I’m not saying I dont believe you, but the sensors at the doors detect microchips in the security tags the store use. Due to the fact that your Penimaster doesnt contain these microchips, I dont think it was the PM that set the alarms off.

That’s exactly what occurs to me. It was most likely a purchase from another store that hadn’t been properly de-activated.

But still a funny story about what I am sure was a nerve wracking moment.

Guys I’ve had my tape measure set them off at home depot before.So I believe it could have been his PM.I know the things are supposed to detect micro chips but we live in an imperfect world where things are built by imperfect people.

I have seen people walk into the local pharmacy here, with a baby stroller, and set it off

Just tell them its the metal plate in your head. definetly sounds a difficult moment but so long as you empty you pockets I dont think they’d take it further, they go off all the time

Not all systems work on microchips. Metal rods can emit radio waves when subjected to radio waves dependant on their tuned frequency. I’m guessing if I were to lengthen or shorten the rods they would not be effected. I’m not brave enough to try it though.

If you look at some tags from stores they are nothing more than a coil of wire which behave as described above.

Thats totally incorrect. You clearly dont have an understanding of security tags (I do, I work with several different kinds on a daily basis) What you have said is wrong on so many levels. But it seems several people already have said similar to what you said so I’ll let it drop.

Security tags are basically spirals of wire. When the magnetic beeper goes over it, when you purchase an item, the strong magnetic field fries the tag. The tag’s length, and spiral shape give the tag a specified inductance, capacitance, and resistance. The tag THEREFORE has a resonant frequency. So, since radio waves from the gate are also electromagnetic waves tuned to the resonant frequency of the tag, the tag RE-EMITS or BENDS the signal (depends on the gate) coming from one of the sides of the gate. When the strong magnet at checkout fries it, the resistance goes WAY UP, so that a current can no longer be induced in the tag from the gate, and it can’t resonate at its original frequency. The tag is not powered; the gate’s electromagnetic field simply induces a current in the tag, thereby bending or re-emitting more radio waves to the recieving side of the gate :buttrock: .
