That’s one way to go about it, but in all honesty I think we would do better by allowing certain veteran members to have more dictatorial control over certain areas of subject matter—putting things to a vote quickly deteriorates, and really, most members would be more than happy to let some of the more experienced guys determine what goes where.

Thinking more about it, if we wanted to create a knowledge base of sorts, we would need to really plan it out—broad categories, let the individual or small team SMEs (subject matter experts) figure out how to plan their sub-categories in their areas, and begin populating it with useful information. Is this something we can do with this board software? Would we need to develop another concurrent web site—that would be relatively easy to do, but then we add on a web-administering load to someone.

However, if we truly want to pursue this, especially given the great girth of knowledge contained in these boards in the minds of the posters here, it is not something to be taken lightly. It would ultimately be pretty great though.

Hmmm…. I like the democracy idea. Doing a seperate poll would be work that probably will not bring the results we want to see. And basically that is what the rating system is now, it averages out the votes to determine a rating. I have it set extremely low, as far as how many votes it takes for the rating to be shown.

No, quite honestly I think I have rated 1 or 2 posts since I have been here :(

what about a simple word count system on the basis that the longer the post the better the info. You could weight members from 1 to 10 for the amount of good content they normaly post and then everything becomes automatic. you could filter out any post in a thread based on whether it mentions one of a list of key words or not.

oh, and a ‘this thread is not PE related’ rating would be good. that’d be an easy way to chop out half the threads. If you added that I wouldn’t mind going through one of the forums again (maybe DW’s ;) )

All the ones in thread of the year- except maybe the hypertrophy one (sorry, hobby- just my opinion), some of the Bib classics, that Phat/ Dance thread you posted today was really good, there are a lot more obvious ones- but you get the idea…

The “best threads” are probably the ones with the most views. If a guy finds good information in a thread, he will come back to it time and again (this , of course, is not counting the argumentative threads, which would have to be weeded out) and it usually stays at the top of the thread list for quite awhile. Do a sort by clicking on the thread view text at the top of the thread listing page in one of the forums and you will see a lot of “best posts” at the top of that list.

I would really like to do what you are suggesting in the future, maybe make it a perk area for forum contributors (both financial and content contributors, it may be based on a “karma” system) , but we have to find some more suckers, ooops, I meant volunteers. Guys that are willing to leave this place a little better off than how they found it.

Then you get threads like this very one here. It has almost a thousand views but only 6 or 7 posters. Most guys high tail it when they know that if they voice an opinion, I am likely to draft their ass without asking. :D :D

I think you will find some of us with under a year in will be happy to help, even if it is just helping with organization. Then when it comes time to add to the best posts in the future, we will be in a position to actually contribute to the content by then :)

I just noticed that, T. Other than you, nobody with more than a year in has contributed to this post. Good eye :)

If you chose the most views then people may try to subvert the system by refreshing a few thousand times.

This thread is perfect for a non-PE rating but I wouldn’t want to give it a 1..Worst.

I know the members and the ones that have been here awhile, know me. I don’t think all of it is avoiding some hard work either.

Do you think anybody would actually care that much about having a particular thread selected? If they did and it was a piece of crap thread, I would claim executive priviledge and veto the thing anyway. But I see what you mean, there would still have to be some editing involved.

I knew I could count on you. :D I’ll place your name on the volunteer list as soon as we start one.

So if I am in a thread, all I have to do is hit the refresh button and it will chalk up another view, huh? Not that I would want to do it, but I never knew that :)

I think the majority of the people here are extremely giving, so I doubt it’d be much of a problem.

I’d just like to point out that I know absolutely nothing and besides I have bad eyesight/gammy leg/piles/vertigo, so I’m probably unsuitable as a candidate even for the lowest level donkey work.
