I think one of the problems with locating good posts is the fact that the ‘main member forum’ is such a catch all but no one seems to post anywhere else and threads are only infrequently moved (wouldn’t this one be better placed in opinions?).

you are so right about drift. I must admit to major guilt in helping that along. but there are also threads that can simply be thrown away within a short period (like this one).

Good idea. I suppose we should crawl before we walk, eh?

We throw nothing away, we delete nothing. This is the correct forum for this type of discussion, because it is the most viewed forum and we will, hopefully, get a lot more input here.

How about a group of say 20 volunteers that go through and rank one forum at a time. Possibly starting with the Newbie Forum?? I don’t see much use in doing any of the forums except newbie, hangers, pumpers and main. Save main for last??

So basically the 20 volunteers would go through and read each post and click on a star number? Is that how the various threads would get rated?

I wasn’t suggesting throwing anything away, simply that this thread could in a couple of months disappear with no real effect. The problem is that it is another thread that people have to wade through to find information about what we are all here for.

The rating thing sounds good, but in the absence of changing the rating system could a rating of 1 be attached to anything non PE related? maybe 2 to posts that are slightly PE related and 3-5 for the range of PE posts.

That would probably be the easiest way. A lot of threads would not have to be read, they are eliminated after a quick glance. We don’t have to rate anything but the “best posts”, leave the others alone. No need to rate every post.

I am open to other suggestions though.

And if this thread disappears in a couple of months and I want to read that thing about a Google bomb again??

Its unfair that thunder get to edit his posts without the little last edited moniker.

So can there be a standardization on what the different ratings mean other than the rather general titles in the pop up, otherwise we’ll simply be rating 1 or 5 with the occasional 4.

I think run through the forum, check the thread and ask, is this a “best thread”? If not, don’t vote and move on. After we are done, anything that is rated four or five stars goes in to the new forum. ??

The four star ones just to make sure to catch the ones that someone may have previously voted on.

Surely it makes sense to rate every thread. Then even if it doesn’t make the best threads list it still can be sorted in the main forum.

And can you from some administrative control panel or other differentiate between who has added the rating? If so the 20 person group could then have an added power to inform.

Might as well rate every thread even if its done at a glance.

Just use the “five star” rating for the best threads. And doing every thread would be nice, but it would take a hell of a lot more work.

No, not yet. I was hoping we could get some volunteers just from this thread. The guys with dial ups may have a problem with rating every thread, as it would be very time consuming.
