Just started hanging

I just started hanging for the first time, today. I gotta say, it was pretty good. I tried hanging several months ago using the foam pipe insulation method which absolutely sucked. After about three minutes of it, the discomfort was so intense that I decided that I couldn’t continue with it. Now, figured it would be a good time to start hanging again. I tried the swim cap method and it is 1000 times better. No discomfort at all. Plus, I can work on school related things while accomplishing PE. Outstanding!

I decided to follow the Tom Hubbard recommendations because I didn’t have anything else to go from. I started with a 3 lb weight hanging it at 10 minutes intervals. Do you guys think that’s enough, too much, too conservative? I’d love some advice for a newbee hanger.

10 minute intervals are good; the most important thing is not to allow your glans to be cold or/and dark.

And I don’t know about you, but the swim cap cannot hold much weight. I would recommend you try and make a hanger out of drumsticks, I made it, cheap, and it works great.

Chicken is right on when it comes to the glans. Pay very careful attention to the temp, numbness, and color . While I also agree that you are going to need a better hanger in the future, I don’t see anything wrong with using the swim cap until you become more conditioned to hanging. Three pounds is more than enough weight for a beginner in my opinion. I also feel that heating before and after is very important, and one thing that is overlooked by many, myself included when I first started. I got some pretty bad discoloration when I was new, because I was in too big a hurry to up the weight, and too impatient to warm up properly. I was also experimenting with pumping at the same time, again without proper warm up. These activities were the major contributors to my discoloration, though it has abated some in the last year and is really not much of a concern.

Don’t forget to jelq a little in between sets to get the blood moving as well as after you finish. I have a feeling I could have made better gains if I spent a little time jelqing after I had completed my hanging routine. Seems like you can’t have one without the other.
