Vacuum Hanging Tip
I posted this same message under progress reports but this is probably a better place for it since it is about hanging — duh.
Maybe this is just stating the obvious but I’ll share a little technique that I devised that makes blistering much less likely and reduces fluid buildup somewhat.
I use Monkeybar’s Vacu-hanger and I have found it critical to get the glans into the hanger all the way — mashed even, right into the end of the hanger. However, there are times when the glans blocks the air-hole and you get air trapped on the underside the glans. You can push as hard as you like but the glans forms a tight seal and the air can’t escape. I tried wearing the hanger upside-down but then there are times when air gets trapped on top of the glans.
Solution: I just use a Q-tip (with most of the cotton taken off) to gently poke into the air-hole. You can force the glans down and allow the air to escape out the hole.
I find this very helpful and it virtually ends all blistering for me. With a complete vacuum, there is nowhere for fluid to go because the glans completely fills the hanger and is, in fact, always exerting some pressure on the outside walls.
File that under "for what it’s worth."
