I’m thinking the same thing GP, my workout was this:
I was only able to go in flaccid or with approximately a 40% erection
10 minute warmup with washcloth
5 minutes at 3hg
let it go completely flaccid while massaging
5 minutes at 4hg
let it go completely flaccid while massaging
Then 3, 5 minute sessions at 5hg with letting it go flaccid and the massage between each set.
After doing 1 workout of that pumping routine if felt and looked great, it was full and heavy, and hung fuller for most of the day. Then I did it again the following day and it looked pretty good, but not quite like the day before so I took a day off completely, then another repeat of the above routine last night and afterwards my dick felt beat to shit and over trained. It was achy on the sides and spongy.
This morning the achyness is gone, but it still feels a bit spongy. I read something from over at Remek’s site (pegym.com) where a member that has PE’d for a while had a similar issue. Here’s what he said.

Since I’m packing it about an inch or so into the tube, I know for sure that from the closest inch down, my dick is pretty much actually under that much tension.
I haven’t TOUCHED a length exercise in about 9 months, and I suddenly put my dick under 4.5 lbs of tension; as it is, when I was hanging I got results and I only ever worked my way up to just 5 lbs! So even though 3”Hg seems to be much less expansive force than I put myself under while clamping, it’s been surprisingly rough on me because there’s a length element to it that I’m not in the slightest bit conditioned for.
This sounds similar to me, and what I just experienced with pumping. I don’t stretch cause it seems like as soon as I do even the most remedial stretch, I over train. I was hoping the pumping would condition me to be able to start to stretch and jelq. My length is decent starting PE at 7.25” bpel but EQ and more girth is what my real goals are.
Perhaps even sneaking up to 5hg like I did was too much for my dick. Maybe just 3hg for 5 sets will yield me more positive PI’s. Even that may prove to be too many sets.
Man, I would really appreciate any advice from you veteran pumpers, or people that may have the same ‘easy to over train’ condition that I have and how you overcame that.
Any advice would be a welcome read my friends!
