I made a very similar pump when I was about 18, pvc pipe and a one way valve from a fuel line.
You can definitely pull a lot of vacuum by mouth, I remember it always gave me a lot of edema when I used it, difficult to gauge when you can’t see what’s going on.
Buy yourself a decent cylinder is my advice.
Tried the pump while erect this morning for five minutes.Holy shit!

I can easily pull -15 in hg by mouth, and -20 with a bit of struggle. I can hit about 5-8 hg with the first suck, and then little sucks get me the rest of the way. The short answer is a lot!

Take a look at Brake Bleeder pumps with a gauge in the automotive section. The one I use was $28 US, from harbor freight tools:

A-unit, the clear tube and warm water pumping medium will make the mouth draw much safer. The mouth draw is actually very good for water pumping because you can achieve a completely water filled system. So the water you draw out will need to be accompanied by an immediate expansion in the volume of your penis by the exact same amount as the volume of the water you suck out. This expansion will be almost all due to tunica expansion as it is the only type of expansion that happens quickly enough to match the mouth draw and equalize the pressure. You can feel it too when your tunica has expanded maximally, it’s like your sucking hits a brick wall and you just can’t suck out anymore water. At that point you can kink the hose or turn a valve and wait 5 or 10 minutes for the tunica to relax, then you can draw out more water for more expansion. The good part about doing it that way is that there is very little chance of edema and you can directly control EXPANSION rather than just pressure.

Yep, every pumper should have a brake bleeder. They are massively useful and awesome. I bet they were made to do PE and someone figured out they also work on brakes. :)

I felt a small amounts that the other day in the bath, but was too tired to do more than a few minutes in the water with the pump.
It’s good to know I’m heading in the right direction with my experiment.
