Homemade Tubes?

Well I finally found a solution to having to buy those cylinders from those big companies for 40 or 60 U.S dollars plus.

I built my on pump awhile ago with the parts from pets smart and the pump from Auto zone or Kragen(forgot exactly where I got it from). The whole thing cost me like 30.00.

Now I can’t bring myself to buy a cylinder for 40 + so I decided to buy one from Ebay(Yah, Yah, I know eba! Ahhhh!) but only for the tube basically. I found this tube plus pump for about 5.00 and that’s all I basically need since I already have a the pump itself.

So I’m going to order it tomorrow once I get paid and wait and I’ll let you guys know how it works out. It’s little smaller then I wanted. I was aiming for 2.75 but for 5.00 who’s complaining.

I don’t have any pics handy but I made an awesome pump out of hamster tubing. You can get any tube length imaginable and there are caps you can buy to create your closed end. Slap any fitting you desire on the closed end and voila, your done. Cost: 4.59 cdn.

By the way: this tubing can be found in virtually any pet section of any store. I don’t have any hamsters either. Annoying little rodents!

Is the tubing transparent so that you can see what is going on during the session?

It’s just a tube. I find sucking for vacuum is just fine for me right now. I’m more passionate about hanging, I just like the pump and fluffiness from the pumping. My tube is clear and transparent. You can also get various color varieties that are transparent as well. Sizes range from 2 inches up. Mine is a 2 x9 inch-er.

I have to repeat this again for all you newbies but you can suck . Yes, suck on the end of the pipe to create a vacuum. I have proven in tests that the mouth can produce a vacuum equal to any pump. Now as for putting ”plastic dip on the end for a better seal , try heating the end up [ slowly ] over a electric element and flaring the end

. This also stops it from digging in to hard against the pubic bone causing pain.

You know, I wonder from time to time about the safety of sucking on the tube to create that degree of vacuum. Chances are it’s OK, but if applying that degree of vacuum can cause rupture of capillaries under the skin of your penis, what is it doing to the alveoli ?

I now have a metal brake bleeding pump from Harbor Freight (just like the LAPDist kind), but when I began I created the vacuum with my mouth. All of the action is done with my mouth, tongue and lips, not my lungs. I doubt anyone could pull a reasonable vacuum with their lungs.

You are right. Noone could create that vacuum with their lungs. That is why you use you mouth, your tongue is used as the ” piston” in your mouth to create the vacuum. Its an art that some people will learn, and others will give up on, but I can assure you that in the tests, we obtained a vacuum equal to a good quality steel pump.

Today is going to be my return to pumping. My plan is to go to walmart, buy a 1.5 gravel cleaner, and some plastigrip. I already own a mity vac, but I threw out my old tubes. I had a 2 inch and 1.5 gravel cleaner tubes. I don’t remember why I quit pumping?

I’m thinking about padding the edge of the tube with a water soaked paper towel molded around the tube, and coated with plasti dip.

Is it not time for a Serious “Hall of fame” for Home made tubes? :D It would really be a benefit to the forum.

Hi Xenolith, how do you attach the hose coming from the pump to the carboy stopper?

Ok so hey guys!

I am going to get started putting a pump together. How do I “flare” the ends after receiving heat from the stove eye?

I am thinking and nothing is coming to me. Any suggestions?

I have read this whole thread and a couple of others and seen someone mention the flare several times but how do I actually pull it off? And obviously I don’t have an anvil or a lathe.

And the tool handle dip is a great idea, AFTER the flare.
