I’m not suggesting that there is no effect from the smaller tube, but so much of the tube is packed pretty tight before any vacuum is applied and once the vacuum is applied it seems to be a limited impact. So I decided to stage with the larger cylinder. I’ll have to see if there is darkening or sequelae later to assess. Probably should have started with just one 5 minute session in each tube but it was the observation of the second session seeming lack of expansion that made me want to try. The terminal length is greater in the larger tube because it seats more fully but even that one is hanging up.. Still sorting all this out. Ordered the suggested oil, we’ll see if that helps.

No sequelae occurred from yesterdays session so decided to kick up the vacuum a notch. Got a little more length and a little more packing with both tubes compared to yesterday. Not sure I needed to stage with the larger tube for the third session but was curious to compare the results to yesterday. I’ll see again if there’s any adverse effects today. My inclination is to stick with the smaller tube till I pack it completely, especially since the 4.5hg had an increase in effect over the previous session. Also want to see how the oil based lube works when it arrives. Will remain cautious.

So instead of staging to the larger tube I just stayed in the smaller tube for a third session. Did not quite get the length we see in the larger tube because, I think, it hangs up at the base, but there was a great deal more packing. The packing measure is actually understated as I took the lowest point of packing as the measure and it was very uneven with a good amount of packing past that point. One thing for sure the portions of the tube that are packed do not exhibit any discoloration, So in that regard I view this experiment a success. The other thing is that because the tube is so tight I did have to bump up the pressure to 4.5"/hg. This seems to be just enough to overcome the friction of the tighter tube to see expansion, session over session.

So at this point I will continue with the smaller tube and stay with the 4.5hg. I still would like to get to the 200mm/hg and run the 5 minute X 2 session 4 week protocol, but based on all I’ve read, any efforts above 5 should only be done after a good bit of conditioning. So maybe down the road but I’m not married to it we’ll let progress dictate that.

Also the lessons of traction have shown that the smallest force that produces results is the best approach and I think that knowledge should be transferred here. So I’ll stay at the 4.5 for a good bit and give it time. Given the lighter tension, I think that 3 sessions should be tolerated, we’ll let EQ be the guide.

Anyway that’s what I’ve navigated so far. If anyone has clarifying thoughts I welcome them.

I’ve upped the mileage by being more consistent and upped the food because felt depleted, but the weight creeped up so I have to watch it on the meal plan again.

While I am doing a short walk after dinner, I am mostly just running 3 days a week. And so I’m having to do longer runs. I have to say that trying to get it done in 3 days is a lot harder than a 5 day schedule. But we have to get it done.
