Starting Porn detox march 1st

Watching porn is not an addiction. When you look at all the suffering and misery in the world I can’t believe that anyone with half a brain believes that this is a worthwhile cause for sympathy. Do they have porn addiction in third world Africa? Doubt it. This is indicative of an affluent society with nothing else to gripe about apart from how often they have the chance to have a wank. Truly pitiful. Wankers .

1) splitting hairs here, but a half ass, round about comment suggesting that I have only 1/2 a brain is an insult directed at me. So if you are going to moderate, then moderate all.. Not just the people that aim for the chin.

2) Correct, however, this is my thread. This wasn’t a “do you think I have half a brain cause I have this view” thread. I think its perfectly acceptable to ask someone to refrain from further comments when you are a threads author and you are looking for empathy. Not opinions.

It’s directed at the idea, you chose to make it personal being someone who ascribes to the idea. That’s the point of this place, discuss the idea, don’t attack the poster. david1979 managed that quite well, you didn’t. It’s a bit like if someone says “atheists are stupid misguided people who will find out how wrong they are in the afterlife” and taking affront at that because you’re an atheist.

Once you start a thread it becomes ‘communal property’. Again, the point of a forum. A blog is the kind of thing you need if you want to be proprietorial about what you post. I’ve started many a thread and there are some with a lot of replies I’d love to delete but they aren’t mine to do that to.

:) Used to be a series in the UK called call my bluff . Rather entertaining. You hit keywords like scientific and multisyllabic words like exponentially to add gravitas to the former explanation and throwaway the latter explanation but I’m going for the former as the bluff.

The addictive personality can make an addiction out of the simplest of things. Porn is a great example simply because it’s so stimulating and the variety is endless.

Regarding whether people obsessed with Porn should be sympathized with misses the point. People on this forum are suffering and we can offer support. And what’s africa got to do with anything?

This so-called affluent society is precisely the type of environment that obsessive and compulsive behaviors emerge because people have leisure time and little to distract them at times. Pornography, gambling, running marathons, drinking, drugs, being a dick to people, are all dissipative activities to stave off boredom and to somehow make one feel better.

Yoga and meditation can help though, unless it starts to affect the rest of your live negatively.

Not everyone here is as rigorously logical in their thinking as Christopher Hitchens. People will infer what they will, in fact I know people who like to read between the lines of cook books.

Growing up in England in the sixties many shows, mostly comedies interestingly, were based on the rigors of logic. Most American shows are not.

The argument sketch by Monty Python is a good example of logic and illogic battling it out.

Anything that depletes dopamine and the other same chemicals causes addiction. It has been shown to cause serious health problems to go low on these chemicals for long periods of time and I suspected that it is the cause of my long time ED which has gotten better with my short pornography detox breaks. Maybe somebody should read the definition of what a scientific theory is. Remember “gravity” is a scientific theory.

I was going to put this in its own thread, but I thought why not toss it in here.

I have been using hypnosis on patients for the last 2 years and have seen amazing changes. Firegoat found a little computer program for subliminal messages that is pretty neat. Subliminal PE. Try it!

I believe subliminals can have a positive effects on your subconscious, and can be very productive over time. Recently on that thread, hbunny found a site with positive sexual subliminals, including kicking the porn habit affirmations. Subliminal PE. Try it! (p. 8)

I thought, "hmmmmm" why not put them together and try it out with our guys trying to kick porn!

So, go to the subliminal thread linked above for the "subliminal blaster" program or download it from cnet;

I will warn you that when you get to the pop up boxes for "accepting" , only the first one is for the subliminal blaster, the next 3-4 are all add on crap, do accept the first and decline the rest.

Next,when you get the program up and running, under the "message" tab at the top, click on add, a box will pop up, label it stop porn or whatever, click on OK, then it will close and appear on the bottom of the "select catagory list".

Put a check in the box in front of it then click on it, normally the messages would then appear in the messages box, but noting is in the catagory yet. click "edit message and a box will pop up. Cut and paste these affirmations;

I am free from porn addiction
I am in control of my sexual urges
I channel my sexual energy into more positive activities
My attitude towards sex is healthy and wholesome
I am dedicated to overcoming porn addiction
My will power is stronger than my porn addiction
I am living a life free from porn
My sex life is full and satisfying without pornography
I am in control of my life
I am a strong, healthy, and positive human being

Then go to the top of that box and click on save and then start session. I suggest leaving the sessions settings at default.

You can run this on your computer the whole time you are using it, try it for a couple weeks and report back here what results you get. I would be very surprised if it didn’t help bunches.

The other one I would STRONGLY suggest adding is already programmed in to "Subliminal Blaster" is "love yourself, love your life" because at the base of most addictions is lack of self love.

I can tell you from my own experience that quitting porn is definitely worth it. My libido is way up and my stamina has gotten just ridiculous. Beautiful irony: I’m fucking like a porn star now that I’ve sworn off porn.

You guys are brave by taking this challenge.
