Parallax error on measuring length

Parallax error on measuring length

How accurate are we on measuring length? I first thought it’s about how dense the marks on the ruler are. Then I realized that the level of erection at the time of measuring can add or subtract ½ an inch. The placement of the ruler versus the pubic bone and how hard you push also count for a difference of 1/8”. Keeping the penis + ruler perpendicular to the body, or inclined, count also for 1/8” variation.

I thought I had reasonably accurate measurements. My ruler has millimeter marks (0.039”). I take measurements at different times around the official measuring date to eliminate the random effect of variable erection level. I have a consistent placement of the ruler and I try to keep the measuring setup perpendicular to the body.

The doubts rose when measuring BPFSL. I’ve noticed I have a consistent difference when measuring BPFSL holding the ruler with my right hand (pulling with my left) versus the other way around. Why I always get less length when pulling with the left hand and a lager BPFS length when pulling with the right? There is no such a difference in the strength of pulling and anyway I was pulling to the limit both with the right and left hand. Then I realized it was the position of my head (eyes) that was different. I had my head more forward when pulling with my right hand, so the imaginary line from my eyes to the tip of the penis intersected the ruler farther from the body. I noticed a consistent difference of 3-4 mm (1/8”).

Now I had to review the way I was measuring BPEL and NBPEL. Though I always had the best intentions not to cheat and tried to have my eyes correctly positioned on the vertical of the measuring target, the subconscious desire for a larger value made me lean forward a bit too much. This became apparent after I’ve manufactured a simple device attached to the ruler. It is capable of sliding along it, with a perpendicularly oriented plain surface that has to come in contact with the tip of the penis. It completely eliminates the parallax effect that made all previous length measurements a bit subjective. This was a huge step in making the measurements truly objective, but it lead to a slight disappointment. Though I’m convinced that since the last measurement I have gained erect length (and the BPFSL confirms it), with the new objective measuring device I had to accept the same value I had a month ago… But at least now it’s certain!

With the visual method I measured 1/8” more than with the contact method. I have no intention to fool myself (or others), so I’ll stick with the objective method from now on.

You are over thinking this just a little bit…a lot.

The primary goal of PE should be to make your penis as healthy as possible in both form and function. If you do that, increased size will follow.

I agree with gprent — just measure consistently.

Your measurements are for keeping track of your PE gains. You aren’t going to be tested on them, or required to verify them at your local Department of Penis Statistics in order to get your Penis Operating License.

They are just so you will know if your program is working. So if your measurement method is consistent as possible, that is good enough.

GOOD LUCK and continue gaining!

Not at all gprent! There are people taking measurements on a weekly basis (some even more frequently!). How much could they gain in the meantime? Certainly less than the measuring error. :)

Evaluating the measuring error is more important than many might think. It makes the difference between imagination and reality and is the only way to track true gains.

EDIT

I’m not saying anyone should do the same I did. Keep dreaming!

Whatever makes you happy. :)

Well I think it is clear to see when a person has gained 1.5”+

Started: NBPEL 5.5 == EG: 5

Current: NBPEL 7.5 == EG: 6

Goal: NBPEL 8 == EG: 6

Sure it is! It’s less obvious to decide when a routine works, or not, for a certain person that measured a loss of 1/16” a month! It still may have worked, if the measuring error is around 1/8”.

I am not disagreeing with any of the other posters, but in my experience, if you want to measure frequently to track gains or stress, you are on the right rack.

If you were actually using a different hand to hold the ruler each time, then the consistency was not there. You are right in that if you want to measure smaller increments of gain or loss, you need to measure exactly the same way each time.

I keep the following things as exactly the same as possible for each measurement:

-which hand holds the ruler
-how far if any you lean
-where you press the ruler into your fat pad
-your posture is very important, sitting standing, pelvis position
-time of day
-general state of flaccidity when measuring flaccid
-general level of horniness when measuring erect
-time since last workout
-other stuff I am forgetting here

Also it takes practice just like anything else. The more you do it, not only will you get more consistent at it, you’ll have more measurements to look at. The more measurements you have, the less likely the overall trend is going to be wrong.

BUT, the actual act of measuring flaccid can affect the measurements. I read the experiences of one highly experienced PE-er who got daily 1mm flaccid gains simply from measuring once or twice each day for several days. I actually stretched my flaccid way out over a few weeks just from a lot of flaccid measuring, but my erect was not coming along for the ride.

So, measuring the flaccid to track stress is something that I have had great success with, but it takes practice and consistency. I know I can see 1/8 difference with a high degree of confidence, and perhaps 1/16 as long as I don’t take too much stock in a single measurement.

I have also developed a feel for how it should feel to do a flaccid measurement, and use it as a PI. It can feel like a strain on the tissues to measure, or it can kind of feel good to measure, like it wants to be stretched out and is slightly relieved be pulled.

For BPEL, which I don’t measure very often anymore, I always try to get the absolute highest number I can and still keep everything consistent. I’ll wait for a night when I am really horny, and usually do it right after the first workout after taking a few days off. And of course try to measure as close to the point of ejaculation as possible.The way I see it, there is always going to be a range, and to get the most precise measurement possible, I have to pick either the absolute upper or lower measurement in the range.

I don’t mention these things as a the “correct” way to measure, but as a description of what I do to try to keep my measurements consistent, so that I can track how I am doing.

Measuring is my thing, I go contrary to the generally accepted dogma about measuring. I do it a lot, and have learned a lot about what my dick wants in order to grow. But I can see how others would want to stick to not measuring very often, as there many problems with measuring often, and you have to make sure you are not fooling yourself in either direction.
