Silicone Sleeves - Make your own

Hi Guys:

I just made my first sleeve and it works great! I will share a few tips on the mold. I used a bigger set-up because of my size (7.5 BPEL x5.8 MSEG ) and I have had no problems today. Could not imagine something tighter.

I used a 1 ¼ PVC plastic pipe and non threaded end cap from Home Depot for the outside mold. I cut the pipe at 3.0”. I then used a table top band saw I own to cut the 3.0” pipe section into two pieces, length wise. The band saw cut is easy and makes a clean cut for the two halves. I drilled a small (0.150 diameter) hole in the end of the cap for a # 6 x 1.0” wood screw. This is for attaching the inside sleeve of the mold.

The inside sleeve is a 3/4” PVC pipe form HD. I then glued inside the ¾ pipe a wooden dowel (also purchased at HD) that filled the pipe nicely. This now gives me a solid inner sleeve for the mold. I cut that piece of pipe (with the wooden dowel glued inside) at 2.90” long. I when took the ¾ pipe to the belt sander and put a cone shape on one end, leaving a flat of 5/8 with a tapper down the side of about ¾ or so. The wood will be exposed as you grind (about ¼ inch from top toward bottom) and this surface will need to be treated. I used finger nail polish to seal the wood. This is required or the silicone will stick to the wood. The tapper one the one end is important in my view because it matches the head of the “unit” and make the fit a bit better at the head.

I the drilled a small starter hole in the full end of the ¾ pipe (opposite the tapper) and centered as best I could. I then placed a ¾ thin rubber washer on the end of the ¾ pipe and put the 1 ¼ pipe cap over the top and attached with the screw. I now had the inside of the sleeve and the outside back end ready. I put the two halves of the 1 ¼ pipe together and pushed then into the cap and used masking tape to hold them together (although they stay together well without the tape). When I poured the Ecoflex 30 into the mold, I got ZERO leaks. I took the outside off after the prescribed 4 hours, removed the screw and rolled up the silicone and removed it from the inside sleeve. After letting it cure a full 24 hours, walla, a perfect ADS sleeve.

Hope this is helpful to those guys who like home projects.

All the best!

Well, I went to Lowes today to get the pieces I need for my mold, got the pipe, inside pieces and everything I need to make the mold. Only thing I am trying to find is a place that sells a bungee type material and a strap set up for my leg. Anyone have a clue where to get those items at? Looking for a strap for the leg and the bungee type material to go from the strap to the latch piece (string) for the sleeve itself. Tried HD and Lowes and Ace Hardware, but no go for those. Thinking I may have to broaden my search, any help would be appreciated. Plan to make the mold tonight and see how that comes out. Hoping to have it all set up for use tomorrow sometime! Will post pics after I get this all set up and all so everyone can see how I did this. Thanks again for any info :)

I am a complete idiot when it comes to finding the necessary items for the mold. I went to the plumbing section with the listed items, and I had a terrible time finding anything. Does anyone have the item #’s on their receipt so that I could quickly pick up the necessary items for a mold. Or if someone wants to build me a couple molds, I will gladly compensate them. Thanks.

Great update! I like the tapered cone idea. What did you do for the loop or string attachment?

Would anyone be willing to make a few more sleeves or possibly have any extra lying around they would be willing to sell? I just went out and bought all the necessary items to make the “Shunga” roll and it will not stay on regardless of what I do.

I too am In desperate need of getting ahold of one of these sleeves because I don’t have the tools to make it and my shunga roll slips off every time I use it. I will gladly pay for the shipping as well as what you think a fair price would be. Thanks guys!

Me too. Wouldn’t it be better if one of our members made a bunch of sleeves and we all compensated him?

I will start taking orders on monday for custom silicone sleeves with attachments for ADS/hanging. There will be small/medium/large sizes available. It will be fair pricing at $15 a sleeve.. And $10 each if you order 3 or more. I will possibly have a website up to order from eventually. More info will be posted in a thread shortly.

budzmaster,

uhhhh, in the last post didn’t you say you couldn’t make your own? And now you want to sell them?

Yep, one minute I have no desire to go through the work to make sleeves of my own just like you all, and the next minute I realize that there is a great demand for them so I decide to make my own. I have experimented and have found that I do not need different sizes for right now. One size will fit all. More info will be posted soon.

I bought one of THESE from Ebay. I like it but I think it is a little too short and the silicon is way to hard. So I would like to try and make one out of TPS’s suggested silicone. Anyone have a suggestion on how to make a mold that I could put a clip piece in? I guess it would be an inverted mold compared to TPS’s.

Has anyone ever embedded a small calibration weight in the end to make a sort of lightweight vacuhanger ADS? Or I was thinking you could find some stainless steel bar stock and cut it to 3grams say and have a nice pull all day.

You could simply make a mold from your ebay stretcher. You can’t use the same silicon rubber for the mold or your future casts will bond with your mold, so use PU rubber instead. Remove the clip and glue a little rectangular or cylinder in it’s place, this will be your future pour channel and where you will add a clip, ring or cord into a future cast. Take something flat like a cd-case and glue the end of the pour channel to the cd-case. Cut a pouring hole in the bottom of a plastic cup. Glue the top of the plastic cup over the stretcher onto the cd-case.

Now just fill the cup with PU rubber enclosing the stretcher. Let it hard. Remove the cup and cut off the hardened pour channel. Cut the mold you made in half to remove the stretcher. Take a new cup and put both halves of your mold in it and now you can make an endless amount of stretchers :)

There’s a lot you can learn from watching all those Smooth-on videos :D

P.s. If you’re able to cut out the ebay stretcher without damaging it you could make some more molds for other members with the excess PU rubber ;)
