The Captn's Wench: PE Device

Sorry if this has already been asked, I tried to find it in the thread but 39 pages, it’s easy to miss something. I bought the Industrial strength Velcro from Amazon, it isn’t what I expected, the rough side isn’t rough but a textured rubber or rubber/plastic hybrid. Is this the same material that was available when CaptnHook first made the wench?

For future reference, can any quality hook and loop material be used as long as it has adhesive backing?

I don’t know if they had these back then but Velcro straps are available that have hook on one side, loop on the other - can those be used?

I know this is an old post but this device seems timeless.

Thanks in advance.
J

If it’s strong enough, any hook and loop material with adhesive backing (glue needs to be strong too!) should work.

I’m doing something wrong, it keeps slipping off no matter how tight I put it on. I had it so tight my head was turning purple and it still slipped off.

I’m wrapping with Theraband strip cut the same width, with three turns - have the theraband really tight too. I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong. Getting really frustrated. Trying to make an ADS.

1st of all you shouldn’t be trying to make a Captains Wench into an ADS. It’s designed for hanging.

If your trying to use Rings then Theraband is a NO, NO. What you should be using is Coban sport tape as it clings to itself which keeps everything in place. Theraband is too slippery for keeping rings on. For that matter if you utilizing a Wench then I would suggest some J&J Hurt-Free tape 2”. I grips nicely and after a couple of uses it looses it’s tendency to stick to the skin.

I’ve seen more than one thread here using the C.W. As an ADS, primarily The Captn’s Wench Amazing ADS, so I figured it was a good foundation for a homemade ADS. I’ll have to try tape but will have to find the equivalent to that tape in another brand, for some reason it is hard to find Johnson&Johnson products were I live, at least at the stores I go to. But first I’m going to give the Coban tape a try, I actually have some (the NexCare variation).

You sent me a video about using weights not long ago Monty, I don’t know if that’s for me although it does have it’s pro’s - I’ll look into a bit more but I’ve been using an ADS and have had some success with it, there have been some supply issues though so I’m looking to change up.

I see where your coming from. Frankly your one of the few who choose to use the C,W, as an All Day System. Most find it far too bulky in their pants to be comfortable.

Good luck with your approach,

Cheers cap, I’m looking to purchase the materials for this in the UK.
I’ve manage to locate all the items on ebay for £38.80, the Waxman grippers alone here are £19 which sucks.

I’m new to PE but will be moving to hanging in the future and this will be my first devise, probably structured into a bathmate, jelqing and hanging weekly circuit.

Looking through this topic again and seeing how much it would cost to make this myself. Thanks for posting that as saves me some trouble searching for the items - London here also.

I ordered this wench kit a few days ago from MONTY’S PE site. Cost only about 28 pound with shipping if I remember correctly. Am anxious for it to arrive and start hanging, hopefully get from 6 to 8 in yr or two. RichT

Your unit is on its way.

The backordered Theraband (Part of the Kit) was finally delivered today.

Thanks @Monty - yes you did notify, soon after my order, that you are waiting for more Theraband. Also with Theraband this would cost at least twice as much to make. You are doing a real good service man :)

It’s difficult to explain everything here for a total perspective on all the aspects of hanging with a Captains Wench.

I’m bumping this. I confess I didn’t read the 40 pages of the thread.

I’m wondering if this http://www.amaz … /dp/B00INTG3QK/ (or anything similar) would work great? The wrapping looks ideal, and with most there’s a little belt on the other side of the cushion, which could provide decent pressure to grip the shaft. A cable clamp would still be needed.

The hook is there.

Anyone cares to demolish my hopes?

I’ve rigged the CW into an ADS and find it works great. Not too bulky at all. I can get away with wearing it pretty much anywhere!

Thanks SO much for this. It’s far more comfortable, practical and easier to make/use than my 2 or 3 attempts on a homemade BIB hanger.

FYI:

- The Velcro is in a different packaging now. It’s mostly plain white with a black stripe on the right side. It has a picture of a fire extinguisher on it. I found it at Home Depot for about 10 bucks (http://www.home depot.com/p/VEL … 90593/202261931 )
- I had some thick felt furniture pads that worked perfectly for the grippers so far.
- I wrap with a strip I cut out of cheap, thin mouse pad I got at Walmart for a couple bucks - grippy side against the skin. It stretches slightly and provides a little padding so it’s very forgiving and especially comfortable with this hanger. I wrap it and put a little tape or a small Velcro cable tie to hold it while I put on the hanger.

Just wanted to say thanks cap. The wench is so easy to make. If you going the homemade hanger route I highly recommend it.

In 2015 there so many ADS out there. The wench is just to bulky. I use a silicone cup that I attach below the knee or wrapped around the waist.

The wench is best at hanging I’m up to 7.5 pounds. And what I call heavy duty manual stretching. Hope this helps anybody thinking of making one.
