My new hanger

I’m a long time Bib Hanger and I love it. A while back, there was some concern about long term availability of the hanger so I started messing around with prototypes. I built several of them with different shapes and coming up with a few interesting ideas. I used regular old pine lumber which is cheap, easy to work with, and plenty strong to make them.

When I made the hanging videos for Thunder’s Place, I realized how long it takes to wrap and then tighten the hanger nut so that was the first thing I wanted to work on. I came up with an adjustable quick release strap actually taken from my snowboard bindings. Works great.

Next was what to use for padding inside the hanger so I didn’t have to wrap and re-wrap again and again. In the end, I found a local wetsuit maker and used some material covered neoprene. I zip tied it into place for ease of changing if it got dirty or torn or whatever. I suspended the neoprene off the bottom of the hanger kind of like a hammock to reduce pinching as the hanger is tightened. So far it’s worked perfectly at the lower weights I’ve been testing with. No wrap. Instant on and off. Very well cushioned and comfortable.

Another thing I addressed was twisting. Several members were talking about putting the hanger on and then the whole thing spinning which twisted the penis. This was an easy fix as I replaced the standard S-hook with a snap-swivel.

The hardest part was working out the inside of the hanger. I made sure there was no pressure on the bottom of the penis so the blood could circulate to the head as much as possible. Also there is plenty of top gap that keeps the hanger well away from the top side of the penis with the important nerves.

All in all, I’m very happy with my hanger. I’m glad to see the Bib is back in production at this time and I don’t have to mess with trying to make a mold and build production models like I had considered. I throw all these ideas out there with the hope of helping other members as they build there own hangers. If anyone wants more detailed information, I will be happy to supply it. Also, if anyone wants some neoprene, I have yards of it and would be happy to mail you some. I can also give the link to where I purchased my binding strap but I’m still looking for a smaller sized one myself. Good luck all you do-it-yourself’ers!

Nice work, that is a perfect example of what can be done with parts on hand. I’m gathering pieces this week to build another hanger. My next hanger will be designed using aluminum. Again, nice work tps.

This thing is beautiful. I like the innovative additions and the way you approach many of the common problems a hanger will experience.

A couple of questions:

Is the hinge attached in such a way as to allow for bottom gap expansion or tightening ala the Bib? Or is it a simple locked in place hinge set up? It appears to be designed for fixed/adjustable bottom gap settings?

The main body of the device appears to have a customized shape. Is it possible to provide a template or a detailed description of its dimensions (width, length, depth, etc)?

Do you have a supplies list of parts and necessary tools for making one?

I like the quick release strap idea. I would imagine that this allows you to tighten even further once weight or tension is applied?

Pretty looking hanger you’ve got there. Personally I favour screws all over so I don’t need a smaller topgap than bottomgap to keep my dick in place and I can tighten the screws very precisely to accomodate for the stretching during hanging. Still you made a very solid hanger and I like the neoprene, it will help keep your dick in place. I wish I was better at working with wood like you :)

I don’t know if this would work, but if you don’t want to cannabilize snow board bindings Yakima makes this strap that could possibly be used instead.

Tryn - aluminum is what I would have liked to build the hanger with. As a matter of fact, I was going to call it the Billet Hanger (I really didn’t want it known as the TPS Hanger) as I was going to machine it from solid aluminum stock. When I realized how many prototypes I would end up building though, wood was the way to go. Also, if I had decided to mass produce it, the aluminum would have only been used to make the mold from as the rest would all be hard plastic like the Bib.

Captn - Thanks for the very kind words. The bottom of my hanger is fairly similar to the Bib Hanger. Fully adjustable for top and bottom gaps as well as toe-in and toe-out settings. The quick release strap is a ratcheting buckle that can be tightened even after the weight is applied. A screw system is infinately adjustable but just takes too long. I didn’t realize how much time I spent tightening the Bib until making that video, which ended up balloning to over 7 megs, most of which was wrapping and tightening.

As far as materials and whatnot, I have a template in the computer I will post as well as the hardware used, etc. Might take me a few days, but I’ll post it :) Oh, and again, I have plenty of neoprene if anyone needs that. Just PM me.

Piet - I wish I was better at working with wood myself. I took a woodshop class…oh my, 22 years ago in my 8th year of school. Fortunately I’ve always had to make or build something so I’ve learned through the years. I just wish I had all the tools when I started. I ended up buying a drill press, band saw, and router to get things exactly how I wanted them. I’m sure I could have simplified things tool-wise to some degree, but I really wanted it nice and professional looking and functioning.

TPS, I love the ingenuity. Did you cut the wood using a scroll saw or ban saw?

I am a scroll sawing, ban sawing, routing fool, so your design caught my attention right away.

Ike - Thanks! I’ve already ordered a Yakima strap from your link to check it out. I found a place online that sells snowboard binding spare parts here but it’s a little big. I’d love to find a smaller one.

Sixer - I must have made my last post just before you did. I used a band saw. I actually bought a scroll saw first as I could make more accurate cuts, but the hanger is 2 inches thick and I thought I should have the strength of a thicker blade. I am not a wood-working pro. I imagine the work involved makes this hanger seem like too much for some do-it-yourself’ers, but it’s not that hard once the dimensions and pieces are worked out.

I look forward to seeing the dimensions. I always thought a Bib style hanger would be far easier to fabricate using wood as opposed to the “round interior” pipe models, which really never made any sense to me. IMO the Bib homebrews are useless - yours obviously comes far closer to what we already know works.

I don’t think enough can be said about the speed with which a hanger can be put on or taken off - it becomes a pretty significant issue when you do this many times a day. Some people gripe about the lack of subtlety a ratcheting type of tightening device provides - but I have never had a problem.

One thought: Where the neoprene connects to the interior of the hanger - I understand and appreciate the need to exchange the neoprene occasionally - that’s a nice touch. What do you think of using industrial strength Velcro as a backing/adhesive to lock the neoprene in place instead of the plastic clasps you have used?

My aluminum version will be 6061 tubing with the tabs for adjustment heliarced to the tubing. I even found some trick aluminum hinges from McMaster Carr. My PVC homebrew hanger works great, but I’m always looking for a better wheel.

For that strap you guys are talking about-some motocross boots use that style strap.

Cutting a large piece like that would be tougher on the scroll saw. They have a scroll saw blade that is rounded, and you can cut coming in at any direction, but still, the thickness would make it tough.

Band saw cuts quick, but when it’s a small piece like that, you have to keep your focus intensity, so you dont lose a finger.

Cool stuff! Stain it, and polyurethane it. Green stain for the Irish :)

You might have inspired me to try to make a penis master base with wood.

That could be a possibilty. I would have to cut reliefs so it wouldn’t stick out, but I’m sure it would work. I wonder what the life expectancy of the glue used to hold piece of velcro to the hanger? I know the zip ties are cheap and permanent until cut.
