Pumping without a gauge

Pumping without a gauge

The question ‘how do I pump without a gauge’ seems to come up with some regularity. Here’s a routine you can use.

Keep in mind that you are working without an important piece of information when you pump without a gauge. If you’ve got a setup without a gauge, work with what you have, but do think about upgrading to a pump with a gauge when you can. It will add greatly to being able to establish a routine that is more consistent from session to session, and a routine that is more likely to avoid pumping at a higher vacuum level than you might have intended.

With all that said, here’s a routine for you.

- Before your session - shave or trim at the base of your cock to help in getting a good seal

- Start out flaccid or somewhat erect

- Choose your lubricant and apply it to your cock

- It’s OK to do some warmup before you pump, if you want to jelq or stretch
.
- Have a heat source ready - rice sock, heating pad or microwavable pad

- Enter the tube, and start applying suction until you have achieved a good solid vacuum at the base of your penis. If you can pull the cylinder away from the base of your penis and it doesn’t break free with a gentle pull, you’re there

- Increase the vacuum level a little bit; not much (this is where the gauge would come in handy) Apply the heat source to the outside of your cylinder to keep things warm during your session. You can’t rely on a sense of ‘stretch’ to know how much vacuum you’ve applied, and pain or discomfort is not a reliable sign that you’re overdoing. Overdoing can happen well before that.

- Hold that level of vacuum for five minutes. You may need to pump the pump a little from time to time as your penis expands to maintain the same level of vacuum. Again, this is where a gauge would come in handy, in knowing when to apply more vacuum.

- When five minutes is up, release the vacuum (pushing in with your finger at the base of the tube should break the suction) and exit the cylinder. Jelq or massage as you wish. You’re done for at least the next 24 to 48 hours. Watch your PIs and EQ. Watch for red spots on your cock (broken capillaries).

- In 24 to 48 hours, repeat. After you’ve done this a while, you’ll probably want to add time. Add another five minutes and see how your penis handles it, based on your PIs, EQ and any red spotting. If adding five minutes is too much, try two 3 minutes sessions instead, and work your way up. Jelq or massage between the two sets in your session.

Awesome work thanks for posting & helping newbs like me out

Good job, Lampwick.

Guys without gauges are doing this blind. A lot more attention to what is happening to their cocks every minute under pressure is called for.

Very helpful Lamp.

Pardon my ignorance, but I’ve been pumping for 11 years without a gauge. Granted I started out making some mistakes, but I doubt a gauge would have made any difference. I don’t see the value of seeing a number on a dial to tell me what I’m doing. I doubt 3hg has the very same effect on everybody.

I get perfectly good results just going by feel. I know how far I can comfortably and safely extend in the tube, and how long I should stay in.
I really don’t care if it is 3hg or 6 hg or whatever. It’s just a number.

In your entire post you did not once mention a gauge number as a useful guideline, so what is the value of the gauge?

Gee, tinytim - in my entire post I did not mention a gauge number as a useful guideline because the whole point of this thread is pumping without a gauge.

If you want to know about gauge numbers, I recommend Vacuum Pumping 101.

If pumping without a gauge is working for you, great! I greatly prefer pumping with a gauge, but the question comes up on a regular basis on how you pump when you don't have one, for whatever reason. I’m with you, brother. I’m not telling someone not to pump because they don’t have a gauge. I’m just trying to help them pump safely and productively without a gauge.

So, rather than asking why the ‘pumping without a gauge’ thread does not have gauge numbers in it, why don’t you add to the thread by sharing what you have learned in 11 years of pumping without a gauge?

Well I have to say that now I changed opinion and now I think this is not helping anyone. What would be really useful would be saying something like pumping without a pump or gaugeing without a gauge because I’ ve pumped and gauged without a pump for 15 years and I don’t like people who’s name starts with ‘L’.

:)

I concur! I prefer jelqing in a room in a vacuum.

On a serious note, great post as always Lamp. I’m relatively new to pumping. I am an old school jelq guy, but pumping has shown me incredible results in just a few months. I agree that a gauge is a super useful tool, especially for a new pumper. I think I could fly blind now with no problem as I can tell the vacuum changes from 3-5 and 5-7 now by feel very easily. I cycle back and forth alot in sets during my session and it has yielded great results.

Thanks for sharing your experience and insight.

What I learned is that I don’t need one.

Good post though. Thanks for sharing.

Know whats another pump without a gauge?

Put some alcohol on a glass wide and long enough for your unit, then light it up..
Then put your dick on the glass XD

But seriously, I just wondered on the thread coz I might start pumping

Just a question: could commercial “gauge-less” pumps be retrofitted with a third part gauge (“vacuometer”?)? I’ve seen those on hardware stores.

There’s no reason that you couldn’t add an inline vacuum gauge to a pump that did not have one originally.

Thanks Lampwick for the information.

I live in Europe so to order one from USA is too expensive for me so i’m going to buy one without a gauge, from a sex shop, and see how it goes.

Also i’m going to try to add an third part gauge to it to see if it works.

I will post all the information here.
