Is the volume of water poured out equal to my own growth in the tube? Entering the tube erect should limit the amount of water expelled.
That’s the trick, go into the tube as erect as possible to get rid of as much water as you can.
Keep an eye on the level in your water trap and when it gets about 3/4 full disconnect you pump and empty it.
You can do the whole thing one handed if you set up you pump right.
Fit the water trap about 2” from the pump and keep the hose about 2 feet long, this allows you to hold it over a sink or bath and by pressing the pressure release on the pump empty the water trap without having to take the lid off.
Another trick is to slowly squeeze the pump as you reconnect it to your cylinder, helps to stop air getting in.
It’s worth having as little water as possible in the water trap for a couple of reasons.
You’re less likely to accidently get water in the pump.
When you have more water espescially hot water you get more steam which gets drawn into the pump and builds up over time eventually requiring you to take it apart and clean it.
