The Science of Libido and EQ - What do we really know?

Hello everyone,

After having a slightly cold and thin flaccid penis and reduced EQ for the last few days, although my libido has been OKAY, I had a fairly strong morning erection this morning and a warm and fat flaccid in the hours after it subsided.

What gives?

I’ve had EQ and libido problem for years and I’m still confused. I’m now much better than I have been at my worst. Libido is generally at least acceptable, but my EQ leaves something to be desired most of the time. It’s good enough for sex and masturbation, but I don’t get raging boners.

I eat healthy and workout consistently. Low BF%. Sleep well most nights. In fact, my EQ may even pick up during periods where I’m slightly sleep deprived as opposed to periods where I’m really rested.

I had pneumonia in the latter part of 2015 and when I first started feeling sick (but not so sick I was lying in bed), I had a week with AMAZING libido and EQ. I would be in class and pack a 30 % erection by default. Just the slightest sexual thought or even a non-sexual text message from a girl, would give me a RAGING boner. My boxers were generally wet with pre-cum. In fact, I felt like this was too much. I’ve had similar periods in the past.

After all these years, I’m still clueless about the factors that influence my libido and EQ. Since I periodically experience great EQ, I’m fairly confident that my piping is okay. I’m tending to lean towards hormones and neurotransmitters, but I’m still clueless.

Anyone in the know? Anyone with similar problems who’s cured this?

Thanks very much in advance.

I’ve experienced it but haven’t found the solution to the question either. I’ve tried sleep, exercise, vitamins, and the list goes on. I just don’t know.

I’ve also wondered if I have unrealistic expecations, but none of my closest friends have these issues. One of them in particular, has been severly burned out from stress, but NEVER has his libido or EQ failed. He isn’t particular healthy either and has been fairly overweight. He claims his EQ/libido is just as good as in his teens. We’re both 30, btw.

I mentioned to another friend of mine that some type of nuts were supposed to be good for erections and he jokingly said, “Well, then I’m certainly not taking them. I would NOT want more than I currently have.”

So, the impression from my peers is that good EQ is fairly normal.

If you don’t mind me asking, what is your age? As you pointed out, it might be related to hormones or neurotransmitter problems

I’m 41 and had these problems since 20 years of age. Some people have great sex drives and some don’t. I fall into the normal category. My wife is in the high category which is good but difficult to keep up with. :D

I’m 30.

I have wondered if it could be genetics or simply my nature. I did have raging boners and sex drive as a teen though.

I think it’s just your nature but stress reduction, proper health and a good outlook on life will help maximize your potential.

I also had raging boners as a teen much to my embarrassment from time to time.

If I knew your lifestyle regards diet, exercise, stress etc I can possibly get some idea of what’s going on and perhaps offer some suggestions. You are welcome to PM me if you don’t want to discuss publically.

BPTony,

Please, let’s take it public so that others may benefit.

Diet: Eggs, bacon, meat, chicken, fish, vegetables, legumes and beans, protein powder (small amounts), nuts, milk, butter, fruit and some oats. I generally eat very clean. I’ve settled on a diet where I typically eat larger amounts of carbohydrates around workouts and on workout days, with lower amounts of carbohydrates on non-workout days.

Exercise: Weights 3X per week. Not too hard and I do regular deloads to avoid over training. If time permits, I do long walks on my off days. Periodically 4X4 intervals (cardio) once per week. I’m going to start doing those again now.

Stress: I think my stress levels are low on average. I’ve had HIGH amounts of stress in the past and I believe my problems started after my body crashed at age 20. The main reason was severe stress, undersleeping, undereating, overtraining, etc. But that’s 10 years ago now…

Supplements: Vitamin D and multivitamin. I’ve now ordered ZMA which I also like to take.

Sleep: In my past, I used to be sleep deficient, but I now sleep typically 7-8 hours per night.

Thanks in advance.

Here is a nice Article about libido and other sexual functions/dysfunctions.

It’s almost midnight here so I will go through it tomorrow sometime. ZMA is great and can be of tremendous value with EQ.

The array of causes for low libido are vast. I’ve been suffering from an extremely low libido for about 3 1/2 months now. I’d say my highest EQ has been 50% and that was with 100mg of Viagra. I noticed my frame of mind in general has changed. I used to have sex daily, at least once.. But that was because when I looked at a beautiful woman I would imagine having sex with her.. That is what was in my actual head. The rest just did it’s job.

Now, even with my current girlfriend, who I find very attractive.. I can’t seem to make my mind focus on that. Luckily I have some great cunnilingus skills so at least that’s tiding her over for now. I’m guessing that’ll eventually run it’s course if I don’t figure something out. Just started a rather intricate regiment of supplements to see how it works out. I’m taking the following:

ZMA
Fish Oil
CLA 1000
L-Arginine
Horny Goat Weed
Maca
Triple Lecithin
Pycnogenol
Zinc

And as soon as it arrives I’ll be trying Tongkat Ali. I will say the first night I took all of these I did wake up with probably about a 40% EQ, but have not seen it since, this is my third night. I have a doctors appointment soon and will see what they can come up with.

EQ and libido can be complex in men, much more so in women.

Factors that can effect it can be related to psychological and or hormonal, or even physical. Diet, rest, nutrients, frequency of sex, over or underdoing PE, psychology, stress (work, school, money, confidence), etc.

You could have everything great, but if you are scared of going soft with your woman, and it just won’t work for you. You could be in great health, but cut your fats and minerals too low, and testosterone will drop too low and kill your drive. You could be low in magnesium and or zinc and have low testosterone levels. You could have ideal nutrients, but be depressed and that can kill your sex drive.

The above list by dared3vil is good for nutrients. I would add a good multimineral from Solaray, and Icelandic kelp to make sure you have all the proper minerals. Moderate exercise, especially wt training helps. Cutting out or down on porn and masturbation helps. Cutting down on stress or at least doing things that de-stress you are helpful.

There are a ton of things, but I think a good physical workup with blood tests are a good place for most guys to start, just to rule out the big things. Yeah, it can be tricky!

It like with pumping, I find 3 in hg for 20 minutes increases my EQ. If I do that same time with 5 in hg, it drops my EQ. So PE is a significant variable to sex drive and EQ. I think if you are having problems, first work toward great EQ from your PE, THEN you can see about gains. I personally believe PE and do amazingly great things for EQ, but it can also crash it. Its a double edged sword.
