Maybe because you can't measure BPEL with a tape? All you are measuring with a tape are variations in your fat pad — weight gain, weight loss, water retention from how many salty foods you ate that day. I don’t think you can really track PE gains with a measuring tape.

Things are a little tricky for me too:
— I point to the left (imagine your penis is saying “Hey YOU!!!!!!! – look over there!)
— I also curve to the left
— I have a U-curve.
How I measure:
Basically, I take the ruler in my right hand, put it on top of my penis, press into bone so that the ruler’s edge is in the middle at the base of my erection.
I then use the left hand to straighten the left curve so that the tip of my glans is likewise lined up, with the the edge of the ruler right in the middle of the meatus.
Then I use the left hand to “flatten out” the U-curve, so that the top of my penis is finally flat against the ruler.
As chronostone says, the main thing is consistency — as long as you measure the same way every time, you can track your gains.
