Animal experiments

Joshua, thanks for the comments.

Worms do not clone themselves. The half without any hearts dies. Worms have five hearts that are bunched together in the anterior region of the worm (the head region). The half that has the hearts will usually live. However I’m not totally convinced they regenerate missing body parts. For instance, I doubt the structure of the anus is regrown - that would require cell differentiation to re-occur, something that normally only happens once in an organisms life.

However, lets just say that worms CAN regrow parts of their bodies.

Let me preface this by saying I’m not a biochemist, and I’m only like 80% sure of anything I state below.

So apparently the trauma of getting cut in half triggers the replication and transcription of special proteins that initiate the regrowth process. Will stretching a worm trigger these same proteins? I doubt it. I know of one protein called heat shock factor (hsf) which is responsible for “cleaning” up misfolded and/or damaged proteins. During times of high cell stress this protein is being synthesized in abundance. It makes sure refuse doesn’t “pile-up” inside your cells. This protein also happens to be highly conserved across organisms. Its ubiquitous because its so essential to life. Does this protein play a roll in worm regrowth? Does it play a role in PE biochemistry? I have no idea. My point is that just because a worm *may* regrow some body parts once its severed does not mean that the experiments I am proposing will be irrelevant to humans.

I don’t think anyone on this entire site has enough experience as a biologist/biochemist to say to what extent stretching worms applies to any cellular processes that occur during PE. No one even knows what happens to cells during PE in the first place, so how COULD anyone criticize these experiments.

Case and point: Recent research into the human aging process started by studying what I believe was called a nematode. Whatever it was called it was a tiny worm comprised exactly of 302 cells and being a millimeter or two long. The scientists who studied the human aging by using this tiny worm knew exactly what she was doing, and knew that the proteins involved were also highly conserved across organisms. I believe the protein they were studying was some insulin receptor or something. But the end result was that their findings were applicable to humans, exactly as they had hypothesized. (btw for anyone interested you can extend your lifespan a good deal by eating a calorie restricted diet, something like 80% of a normal diet.)

The fact of the matter is that PE is in the stone age and no one here can say whether or not findings obtained from worms would be applicable to PE and how MUCH they would be applicable. Ya, lets stay in the stone. What are those crazy people doing boiling rocks and trying to make something called “metal”. Ya, who needs metal? Stones work perfect for everything we want to do anyways!

And you don’t. That’s the point - by stretching worms you won’t be able to be sure of any results you produce.

I applaud your desire for experiments, but animal abuse isn’t the way forward. Try to get a group of PEOPLE together, and test on them. Design a routine that runs for a month or two that tests a particular hypothesis of yours (do you have any btw?), and then present the results. Such results will be warmly welcomed, whereas a 12” earthworm won’t.

Thinking about it some more, I’d like to see the relationship between girth and length tested.

Hypothesis 1:
Because the penis is like a balloon, gaining girth reduces length.

Get a bunch of guys to work on solely girth for a couple of months, then remeasure their length. Some could have gained girth and lost length, some could have just gained girth, some could have gained both. This text would probably also test another hypothesis:

Hypothesis 2:
Some girth exercises add length due to the forces induced from base squeezing.

Thoughts?

YOU try running an experiment through the internet and see how the scientific community accepts it.

No I don’t have any testable hypotheses yet. I just thought up this idea yesterday.

And you are right, I won’t know exactly what I’m doing if I run this experiment, thats why I want to get together a team of people. Plus I’m eager to learn.

Plus there is also the issue that you can’t dissect human penises.

We’re not trying to impress the scientific community and even if you are, a “non-scientist” pulling earthworms apart isn’t going to prove anything to them about PE, a subject which most of science already dimisses as myth.

I know that running worldwide experiments is hard, so why not provide an incentive for your subjects. Have them log daily activity and sizes, and then pay them for their time and effort.

Seems to me Tube is simply very eager to learn WHY and HOW EXACTLY PE works. Thats it.

Shooting him down in flames when he thinks of an experiment will not help anyone.

Perhaps we need a little more constructive criticism and a little less criticism.

If anyone can think of a more suitable, REPEATABLE experiment, please let us all know.

I just think that even though someone may not agree with Tube, that is no reason to start crucifying the guy.

Just my $0.02 worth.

Tube if you really want to run an experiemnt, you should maybe start the experiment I was/am going to run as soon I get some more time on my hands. I already have half the information needed for it, all you need is participants. And you were going to help me anyways. It would seem more logical and would bring out more results if we used humans :D .

Hey andrew, thanks a lot, I really appreciate it.

Anon, paying subjects is a very interesting idea and one that I will think about more.

And andrew was right, I’m not really trying to impress anyone or prove anything. I just want to learn more about pe, and hopefully answer some of the many unanswered questions. I’m not saying these proposed experiments would give us a complete answer on anything, but it would be a start.

Also, I was not going to jelq these worms, that would be weird. I’m going to hang weights off them.

I think you should try it with slugs. They’re kinda penis-like, hafta be cheaper than chimps, and people won’t complain because they think slugs are icky. And you can use salt to simulate shrivelage.

Dr. Mengele I presume

Need I say more.

Swiftcurve, what in the world are you talking about?

Hey why not go to a prison and ask the prisoners to do some of the exercises? I bet they are willing to help.Set up a little research centre, ask discovery channel for some money in trade of good tv program and you will become a new worldwide hero (although hated by the feminists “as if dick-size is everything in a relationship”) after publishing and broadcasting the results. You even might get a nobel-price for science…

I’ve got it! The chinese. China has more people than it knows what to do with. They would be happy to give you how ever many you need. Then you could set up a circus tent in your yard with cots. Then go to Sam’s club and buy them out of rice and baby oil. You could put up a giant imax screen in the tent with gandolfs instructional videos running 24/7. I bet that they would damn willing participants to, since it is rumored that chinamen have very small dicks.

Another idea. You could look up a dozen or so small dairy farms. Go to the farmer and ask him how long he milks each cow each day, and if he minds if you measure the teets on his cows. You could then return each month ( with the permission of the farmer of course ) for measurments.
