Benefits of Fish Oil

They claim that they have 38% Omega3. The bottles they sell here are 105 ml. Oil is slightly less dense than water, so it should be roughly 95-100 grams per bottle. I can get ahold of density to transformer oils ;) but I have no idea about these oils. Let’s say it’s 100 grams for sake of simplicity, that gives us 38 grams Omega3. I recall from the label that the percentage of EPA/DHA is 31-33% (the other ~6 % are other fatty acids in the Omega3 family). So your calculation of 31.5 grams sounds right.

Apparently, they sell duopacks of 2x105 ml (at least in Sweden and the UK). I wish they’d sell 300 ml bottles. Have you checked out UK or Canadian sites?

Do you take 2 teaspoons per day? I take it that 2 tsp would be about 3000 mg of DHA+EPA for that brand.

Please :donatecar to Thunder's Place to keep it running.

I’m halfway through my first bottle - I’ve taken a healthy tablespoon in the morning (measured it to 7 ml) and then I’ve taken softgels in the evening or a smaller amount in the spoon. I figure a bottle should last me 10 days at the planned intake of 3000 mg / day.

I’ve been taking fish oil, via bottle, for two months now, and although I haven’t noticed any mood or libido enhancing effects, I have been pleasantly surprised that my tachyacardia has been brought under control. I still get blips and minor irregular heartbeats, but these pale in comparison to the long episodes - sometimes lasting 3 hours - of forceful, rapid, heart pounding that had afflicted me since summer, when I was adimitted to emergency with a relaxed heartbeat of 170. When these first occured, My cardiologist gave me pills and recommended that I have a procedure known as an ablation. But I delayed, hoping to find a more natural solution. Taking Fish oil is the only thing I’ve changed in my daily routine.

They say that flax seed oil is good for the skin and speeds recovery. Good for bodybuilding too. Give that a go.

Actually, I have started noticing a difference since my last post in this thread. I take somewhere between 2000-3000 mg daily (Eskimo3 liquid). The difference is that my creativity is getting back to speed again - I’ve noticed I come up with “unusual” solutions and new ideas again. This has been pretty much gone since I got my last depression.

I’m going to up my dosage a bit to 3000-4000 daily (counting irregularities from forgetting somedays) and see what happens in another two months.

Hobby,

I happened to take the fish oil with the same spoon that I’d just taken some blueberry jam with - no fish taste. The Eskimo3 is pretty neutral to start with, but this just plain netralized the taste totally. Something for your mother maybe?

I buy Carlson fish oil up here in Toronto, from a little health food store nearby. Made from sardines and anchovies, it also has that lemony taste that people hate so much. I don’t know why this is the case though. I prefer lemon to capsules made from cow’s hooves or god knows what.

I think Equazen makes their capsules from vegetable stuff.

Eskimo doesn’t have a strong taste at all; the Friggs I took earlier did. I think they needed the lemon oil to mask the fishy rancidness. The Eskimo3 tastes more like pine needles with a dash of fish.

huff,

Have you tried magnesium tablets for the irregular and fast heartbeats? I use to have skips fairly often, and once I started taking magnesium they stopped. Also, my heart rate slowed down. Some people don’t absorb magnesium well, so it may be more than just dietary intake involved. Taking the tablets with food helps absorption, and there may be other ways to increase absorption perhaps.

Btw, Some bottles have tablets as magnesium/calcium/zinc. I found that the magnesium doesn’t seem to work for my skips and heart-rate when I take that combination together, so I don’t buy that combo tablet anymore, though I do take zinc separately at times.

A really good form of Magnesium is Magnesium Aspartate.

This is what is used in ZMA, I suspect because its absorption is high, therefore produces the most noticeable effects.

My Dads severe arrhythmia’s were greatly helped with this.

Taking is with food is good unless its really high in fiber. Fiber can prevent absorption.

So if your meal is high fiber, wait a few hours then take your magnesium with a little apple juice or milk…that works great.

A side effect can develop from medications. I had that happen years back with Flexeril, a muscle relaxer I was taking for some back pain (Flexeril plays havoc when trying to get an erection. I had to skip taking it at times, lol). It very slowly over time caused my heart rate to go up, and skips, but it was so gradual it wasn’t obvious it was the med doing it. After it was discovered why, I started looking for alternative ways to relax my back and then I found out about magnesium.
