L-Arginine
Just let me help everyone out. Don’t take half of this stuff..1. L-Arginine: It’s not needed.
Warning
Unless you have a specific need for extra arginine, taking a supplement could provide too much of the amino acid. In fact, excessive amounts of L-arginine —- generally, more than 20 grams per day —- can increase your chances of death after a heart attack and promote the growth of cancer cells, warns the University of Michigan Health System. Even in lower doses, arginine may be unsafe if you have herpes, kidney disease or liver disease.
I’m with Cock Kent on this one. Masterjedishane’s comment on L-arginine is misleading.
Firstly excessive doses of just about any supplement can cause problems.
Secondly the recommended daily dose of L-Arginine is normally around 6 gms far less than the 20 gms quoted. I did read a study that said that taking 20 gms increased the growth of some cancers (ie in someone with that cancer) but reduced the growth of other cancers. People with certain illnesses should not take l-arginine but that also applies with all supplements. You should always check. The information can usually be googled. I read that you should not take arginine while you have a virus (eg cold or flu) but substitute it for lysine. L-arginine seems to have many more positive side effects than negative ones.
I take 6 gms of L-arginine daily in 3 doses of 2 gms - 2 first thing in the morning with 2 gms of l citrulline, 2 gms on an an empty stomach half an hour before exercising and finally just before bed with 2 gms of l-ornithine to promote healing. I also take one tablet of pycnogenol and two ginkyo to assist. I find it has significantly helped me with my EQ as well as assisting me in my cardio exercise / weight reduction campaign that I started 6 months ago after taking up PE.
