Real Average Must Be Bigger

I don’t think it would make a big enough difference in measured size to alter the picture the numbers I posted paint, which is, in a nutshell, there are hundreds of millions of men walking around that have about 8" or better, but they only represent a small percentage of the male population.

Guys who have big dicks usually don’t mind showing other people. You see them naked in public showers and locker rooms, and they usually don’t hesitate to drop trow in front of you when changing. Of course we also see them in porn. By comparison, guys who are small tend to keep their dicks hidden.

The result is a distorted sense of what is normal and average.

I’m not discounting that effect completely, but I think the bigger factor is comfort with ones body or “not caring” what others think over size. I’ve been in a lot of locker rooms and seen a wide range of sizes on display. To corroborate, it seems the older a guy is, so probably cares less each year what others think, and probably reasonable to assume more and more comfortable with ones own body including what it is and what it isn’t, but older guys seem far more willing to sling their meat around for all to see, even if they are less then average flaccid.

I’ve noticed this too. It could also be that older guys don’t have as much of a stupid dick complex as young guys today, since they didn’t grow up watching Mandingo movies on the Internet for 5 hours a day as teenagers. I’m amazed by the number of gray-haired guys in locker rooms and in naturist settings who are completely comfortable with their 1-2” flaccid units. Good for them!

When I was growing up, gym class was mandatory in school and showers were compulsory as well. The showers were open, group showers, often around a central “carousel” that had multiple shower heads.

I assumed that this state of affairs was more or less still the norm, but it appears from some things I have read on the internet that it is not. I think someone who grew up with this system, or was in the military, pretty much takes it for granted that the other men at a group shower facility are going to see them naked, and they don’t think much about it.

A fair number of women have seen me naked. If I’m not going to be overly worried about what they think of me, I sure am not going to give a shit about what some guy thinks. I am somewhat larger than average, especially flaccid, but I don’t really think that enters into my attitude. Perhaps I would feel differently if I was much smaller than average, though.

The funny thing is I grew up in a military family on a Navy base and I went to school on base. These schools required PE and had showers but they were optional AND had stalls. Granted you had to walk naked from the lockers to the shower area but I don’t recall anyone ever using them.

I haven’t read the whole thread, and personally I tend to believe the surveys, simply because they are the most scientific data we have. But the OP reminded me of a discussion I recently had with a woman online who was skeptical about the average girth of 5” since all her lovers except one had been around 6”. And yes she said she measured them. She even said when talking to her friends about this, they thought the average of their partners was about that girth too. The weird thing was that I didn’t see any reason to think she was trolling, based on different things. So I guess she had just been very “lucky”, and she was open to that possibility herself. (Or she could just have been very inept with the measuring tape) But it’s definitely not the first time I’ve seen disbelief about the established averages. (On this forum alone, there’s quite a bit) It’s the kind of thing that makes you think, but it doesn’t convince me of anything. The only “personal” surprises I’ve had when it comes to size is seeing how many big flaccids there are. But I’ve always thought there were just a significant amount of showers.

That’s one reason to believe the average girth is as “low” as the 5” we are usually told. (To follow up the story I told above) Other reasons:
*The agreement between different studies, why would they ALL (afaik) get a too low number?
*Condom companies would definitely notice if their standard products where too tight for most people. After all, you’re adviced to choose a bigger than normal condom already at 13cm, according to a British educational show I saw. (6” would be 15cm)
*Why does everyone think pornstars are big if the average girth is anywhere near 6”?? In my opininion, that’s not even the average girth in the porn business. I don’t think camera angles, small girls etc alone could explain away that.

Maybe guys with large dicks tend to stick together in groups… like… hot babes with big boobs. Group dinamics and evolution instinct, easy as that.

I don’t trust anything women have to say about dick size. Gay guys are far more knowledgeable and more likely to pay far more attention to the exact measurements of dick size. I’ve had the same girl tell me I have an average dick, I’m hung like a horse and I have no dick. It’s all emotions/anger talking, I think? Girls are also more likely to be tricked by fake plastic porno dicks or camera angles because they don’t care about it as much. They are more concerned about how the porno girl’s tits/pussies look like and how their own compares. Vanity issues, just like us with dick sizes. Just my opinion.
