how to measure: seated or standing?

In a recent thread (Erection question…) there was some discussion about erection quality and measurements in a sitting position vs. while standing. I think most, if not all, guys meausure longer when they’re sitting - in my case the difference is almost 1/2". Am I right here?

Do instructions on how to measure correctly address this? (I just did a pretty thorough search for this but I must suck at that, because I didn’t turn up any such instructions.) I never considered my seated measurements "official"; how about other people here? How about methods for measuring used for studies of penis size? If sitting/standing isn’t specified on studies that rely on self-reporting, you can bet that the data is skewed by plenty of respondents measuring while seated. Making such studies even more unreliable than they already are.

I find that I get the same measurement whether I be seated or standing, but I do it seated cause it’s easier to maintain an erection due to the difference in gravity while sitting.

How do you have sex with your lover? sitting? standing? laid down? doggy style?:D . It doesn’t matter how you measure it, as long as you do it the same way every time! Maybe in some positions your lover would fell it deeper, try to stick to that position, and try to get a good measure in that position . Besides, this is not a competition :rolleyes: , don’t be so worry about an “official” one.

If you want to compare yourself to others, yeah, maybe some consistency in how everyone measures is required. But! If you want to measure your own progress — which is 100x more important, in my opinion — just make sure you measure the same way every time.

Told you I suck at searching. I see sitting vs. standing has been addressed several times, so that answered my questions on that, thanks. Looks like people use a lot of different measuring techniques.

That is exactly right. You should measure to check gains, so be consistant with your method. If you want to compare to someone else, you need to know exactly how they measured. Most data and studies on the subject aren’t even clear on the measuring criteria, so it is hard to know how to interpret the data. Some studies collect lots of data points but won’t even tell you if the measurement was BP or NBP!

Even girth measurements are variable depending on how tight the subject pulls the tape, and the exact position of the tape (in the center of the shaft or closer to the base with lots of sack skin under the tape etc).

If you measure yourself at 6x5 and someone else says they are 6.25 x 5.25, you don’t really know exactly how you compare. You might be bigger than him, but more conservative in your measurement.

So you get the longest measurement while sitting? That’s interesting, because I get a much larger length while standing and I thought this was typical for all guys. hmm

I ain’t no scientist but I can pretty much guarantee you that, unless you own a very special anti-gravity chair, the gravity is the same whether you’re sitting or standing.

Yep, and I’d assumed THAT was typical for all guys. Very strange.

Not a competition? Sure it is. I mean, maybe not among us at Thunders. But I do think most guys want bigger dicks so they can be larger relative to other guys, not so they can be larger relative to what they started with.

But yeah, I see how hard it is to compare. Kind of forces one to forget about competing.
